About
Northern Haven Support Society operates a women’s shelter in Slave Lake, Alberta and promotes community programs that prevent violence and bullying.
We sincerely appreciate the support and funding received from Prevention of Family Violence and Bullying Division of Alberta Children’s Services and The Town of Slave Lake and the many private and corporate donors in Slave Lake.
We believe in:
-
a community free from violence and abuse
- human rights for women
- equal worth of women, children and men
- women’s ability to make rational decisions for themselves
- the principle that family violence, in its many forms, is a criminal act and must be treated as such.
- the principle that abusers are accountable for their actions.
Mission:
“With prevention as a priority, we work within an atmosphere of understanding, support and trust to provide healing opportunities for people impacted by violence.”
Northern Haven Support Society:
- Offers programs to prevent family violence and bullying in our community
- Supports the Anger Education counseling group in cooperation with other agencies in Slave Lake
- Facilitates programs that offer education on interpersonal relationships
- Has the goal of establishing a second stage housing program for women and children as they establish homes that are free of violence.
